The Muhlenberg Action Plan (MAP) enables students to harness the power of their liberal arts degree to achieve career success.

During a student’s time at Muhlenberg, career coaches partner with them to help identify what is important to them and build confidence and career readiness skills through reflection and actionable steps.

The MAP guides students through the career development life-cycle- a conceptual framework rooted in theoretical and practical coaching foundations- to create strategies and opportunities while honoring the uniqueness of each student’s goals.

Whether undecided and entertaining multiple career paths or extremely focused on a specific outcome, students activating their Muhlenberg Action Plan and leveraging resources such as Handshake, our career portal, are able to begin their career journey from Day 1 as a Mule.

Some key Muhlenberg opportunities that help students explore and experience careers include:

  • Mules on the Move: Fully-funded trips to notable businesses and organizations across Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York to network with alumni and learn more about potential roles.
  • The Muhlenberg Winter Break Externship Program: Alumni-sponsored job shadowing opportunities across the country (including the midwest and west coast). Students learn more about how fellow Mules have leveraged their Muhlenberg degree to achieve career success all while building their network and knowledge of the workforce.
  • One-on-one Coaching: Students meet with career coaches as early as their first week on campus to set goals and identify resources. As students progress through their MAP, coaches assist with all facets of the job search and grad school preparation process.
  • The Muhlenberg Network: Students are connected to Muhlenberg alumni across the globe through exciting programs, most notably our annual Alumni Week and Connections Conference. Alumni visit classes, serve on panels to share knowledge and insights, and build lasting relationships with students at the culminating Networking Reception.
  • Work Experience: Through on-campus employment or internships on and off campus, students hone their skills and expertise with guidance from faculty advisors or career coaches. Each year, thousands of full-time, part-time, volunteer and internship opportunities, many of which are shared via Muhlenberg alumni, are posted on Handshake in a variety of industries.
  • Academic Integration: Carefully crafted workshops that help students evaluate their values and strengths as they relate to careers are presented to students through classroom presentations and our Personal and Professional Development credit-bearing course options.
  • Company Information Sessions: Well-known companies in business, finance, healthcare, media and entertainment (to name a few) promote events on Handshake so students can learn more about their company and pathways to employment.

Whatever a student’s desired path and wherever they may be on their journey, the Muhlenberg College Career Center team is there to make sure they have a MAP to guide them to success!
