Students interested in study abroad programs should start as early as possible to consult with the Office of Global Education (OGE) and their faculty advisor(s) on programs that would be a good fit. Students are encouraged to review the list of approved programs through the Horizons system (no login is required to browse programs) and utilize the study abroad / away provider websites to explore the programs in greater detail. Students should then contact the OGE with any questions and for advising about program offerings; we are available for in-person, zoom, or phone meetings.

Study abroad / away is typically reserved for the Fall or Spring semesters of the Junior year. With the exception of MILA courses and other Muhlenberg-led programs, study abroad / away in the sophomore or senior year is allowed with prior approval from the Office of Global Education.

Applying for Study Abroad / Away

To apply for approval to study abroad / away, students must complete an application through the Horizons system. Muhlenberg students will login with their Muhlenberg credentials to start an application.

Students will first be asked to complete their profile. You will then search for the program to which you wish to apply, press the 'apply button' and select your desired term. Students will need to complete the pre-acceptance section of the application and submit it for review by the Global Education Office. You do not need to complete the application in one sitting.

All applications for students looking to study abroad / away in fall 2025 and/or spring 2026 will open on September 1, 2024.

Students interested in studying abroad / away for the fall semester must apply by December 1 to be nominated for study abroad by the Office of Global Education. Students interested in studying abroad / away for the spring semester must apply by March 1 to be nominated for study abroad by the Office of Global Education.

Once nominated by the Office of Global Education to study abroad / away, students will then complete the application to their host institution/study abroad program.
