Dr. Conner is an active performer, scholar and teacher.
He is Artistic Director of Nights Black Bird, an early music ensemble in which he plays viola da gamba and lute. Nights Black Bird has concertized throughout the Northeastern United States including performances in Indiana, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and New York.
As a Jazz performer, Dr. Conner leads the award-winning Ted Conner Quartet, an ensemble in which he plays guitar and guitar synthesizer.
Dr. Conner’s articles have been published in Theory and Practice, In Theory Only, and The Journal of the Viola da Gamba Society of America.
He has transcribed and edited a number of early music editions including John Moss’s Lessons for the Basse-Viol (1671), volumes I and II (Dovehouse Editions), Robert Jones’s The Second Booke of Songs and Ayres (PRB Publications) and The Division Violin and The Second Part of John Playford’s The Division Violin (The Viola da Gamba Society of America).
Volume I of his three-volume collection, The Works of Tobais Hume, is being released by Dovehouse Publications later this year.
Dr. Conner teaches courses in Music History and Theory, including History of Symphony, Opera, World Music, History of Jazz, the Music History Seminar, the Music Senior Seminar and Counterpoint as well as a First Year Seminar, Musical Revolutions.
Dr. Conner also directs Muhlenberg’s early music ensemble, the Collegium musicum, and the Jazz Improvisation Ensemble.
