Applications for Assistant Director
and Dramaturg positions for
The Penelopiad
Due Friday, May 31
If you are interested in being an Assistant Director or Dramaturg for the Fall 2024 production of The Penelopiad, please complete the application below by Friday, May 31 at 12 noon.
If you have already applied to be an AD for Dance Nation, but you no longer want to be considered, please email us to let us know.
Performances are Sept. 26-29, 2024 in the Studio Theatre
Assistant director responsibilities may include taking notes, attending production/design meetings and all tech rehearsals, helping the director run rehearsals, facilitating the rehearsal process in the director’s absence, and other duties as assigned. Specific responsibilities and tasks will be decided based on the assistant’s abilities and the show’s needs.
Communication and negotiation are essential in clarifying the assignment of these duties. The assistant director is another set of eyes and ears and serves as a sounding board for the director. This is a position made of trust and confidentiality.
Dramaturg responsibilities will primarily be conducting research on the time period, geography, culturally significant aspects of the production, and themes found in the play. They will have an opportunity to write a program note. We expect the dramaturg to be present in the creative process; again, communication and negotiation are essential in clarifying the assignment of these duties, and this position is also made of trust and confidentiality.
All applicants are required to read the script before applying and interviewing.
