Muhlenberg Welcomes Eric Danielson as Dean of Admissions

As admissions director at Mount St. Mary’s, Danielson updated and streamlined the application process at the institution, including implementing a new customer relationship management tool, joining Common App, instituting a test-optional plan and transitioning search and financial aid leveraging partners. Throughout this process, he prioritized transparency, equity and inclusion, which led to four of the five largest first-year classes in the university’s history, a five percent increase in retention and a doubling of the enrollment of students of color.
“Eric has navigated significant changes in admissions offices while building strong relationships with campus partners and students,” says Vice President for Enrollment Management Megan Ryan. “He is a strategic thinker with deep commitment to diversity and belonging. His collaborative nature is a perfect fit for the Muhlenberg community.”
Danielson, who joined Muhlenberg as dean of admissions on July 17, has worked in enrollment management for 18 years. He says his interest in a career in higher education began while a student at Gettysburg College, where he studied classics and anthropology and served as a student tour guide.
Following graduation, he accepted an admissions counselor position at St. Bonaventure University and worked for 11 years in positions of increasing responsibility, including assistant director of financial aid, until he took the role at Mount St. Mary’s.
Danielson’s passion for admissions and recruitment is driven by a belief that college success stems from student fit. “Being able to watch students realize their full potential has been the most rewarding aspect of my career,” he says. “I was drawn to Muhlenberg not only because a community-focused, liberal arts institution was the crucible of my own path but because I believe these institutions offer the most holistic value to students who are committed to engaging in academics, finding their passions and learning to serve."
