Muhlenberg College President Kathleen Harring has appointed seasoned higher education communications and marketing leader and strategist Todd Lineburger as vice president for communications and marketing. In the role, Lineburger will serve as chief communication and marketing officer and will oversee internal and external communications strategy, branding, creative and digital strategy, media relations and crisis management for the College. He will begin his position at Muhlenberg on February 15.
“Throughout his career, Todd has brought creativity and innovation to bear to advance the priorities of the institutions that he has served, as well as a commitment to leading and developing the talents and contributions of his teams,” Harring said. “As a member of the College’s senior leadership team, his experience and insights will accelerate our efforts to connect with our many audiences and to tell the story of Muhlenberg College in new and compelling ways.”
Lineburger was appointed to the role following a national search.
Since 2018, Lineburger has served as associate vice president and special advisor for strategic advancement communications at Rutgers University Foundation. In those roles, he has driven integrated marketing and communications strategy, directed creative services and digital marketing efforts and has helped lead public relations and crisis communications efforts. These included the branding and marketing of the university’s Scarlet Promise Grants and the Rutgers Hall of Distinguished Alumni, among others. Lineburger also led the launch of a new foundation website and dramatically expanded its integrated marketing efforts, resulting in gains in awareness and engagement among Rutgers alumni and friends. In 2018-2019 he co-led the development of Rutgers’ institution-wide value proposition-based messaging strategy.
Lineburger previously served as director of advancement communications for Franklin & Marshall College, acting as a key leader on the college’s communications team and helping to manage comprehensive campaign marketing to support engagement and philanthropy goals. Prior to Franklin & Marshall, he served first as director of development communications for Widener University School of Law and also provided leadership and support for the law school’s efforts to generate philanthropy in the form of grants, major gifts, and annual giving. He began his career in communications and academic affairs roles at Washington College and at the Benedictine Foundation in Ridgely, Maryland.
“It’s a privilege to join the Muhlenberg College community and to serve on President Harring’s leadership team,” he said. “I couldn’t be more thrilled to help advance the liberal arts at such an eminent college. Muhlenberg has a tremendously bright future, and I can’t wait to get started.”
Lineburger earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English from Washington College.
