As part of a comprehensive periodic accreditation review, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education has determined that Muhlenberg College continues to meet all accreditation requirements. The college received official confirmation of its reaccreditation on July 1.

While offering two modest recommendations and no requirements for change, the Middle States visiting team commended Muhlenberg for its rigorous student learning outcomes, systematic evaluation and modification of its academic programs, clear fiscal management, and strong governance. Other areas of strength noted by the evaluation team included the college’s mission clarity and communication; general education curriculum; support for under-resourced students; and commitment to economic diversity, openness and transparency, and shared governance.

Middle States reaccreditation comprises a comprehensive review of an institution’s adherence to seven standards, including mission, ethics, student experience, and institutional improvement, alongside 15 requirements of affiliation.

The evaluation is based on a rigorous multi-year self-study completed by working groups of faculty and staff across every area of the college and culminated with a site visit that included discussions with students, faculty, staff, and members of the board of trustees. These teams worked together to collect a variety of data demonstrating the effectiveness of strategies, operations, and outcomes for students and alumni.

“I am very proud that Middle States has recognized the excellence we work so hard to sustain every day at Muhlenberg,” says Muhlenberg President Kathleen Harring, Ph.D. “Our successful reaccreditation could not have been achieved without the work of so many faculty and staff. I am grateful for the outstanding work that Professor Jack Gambino, Ph.D., and Provost Laura Furge, Ph.D., did in leading this effort, as well as the commitment of the members of the steering committee and working groups.”
